Use mentions, reactions, and read receipts
Mention a participant
Section titled “Mention a participant”Type @ or select the mention button. Chat shows active participants in the
current conversation. Choose a person to insert one mention. A mention can be
sent by itself.
Selecting outside the suggestion list closes it without changing the draft.
Add or remove a reaction
Section titled “Add or remove a reaction”Open the message actions and choose React, then select an emoji. Selecting the same reaction again removes your reaction. Each person can apply a given reaction only once to the same message.
On a touch screen, double-tap the message bubble to add or remove a thumbs-up reaction.
Read sent-message receipts
Section titled “Read sent-message receipts”Your sent messages show a double tick beside reactions:
- a faded tick means nobody else has read the message yet;
- an active tick means at least one other participant has read it.
In a group, select the active tick to open the reader list. Current participants show their current status. Former participants who read the message remain identified but do not expose a current status. Direct conversations do not need a reader modal, and saved messages to yourself do not show receipts.
Marking a conversation unread changes only your personal marker. It does not undo a receipt already recorded for someone else’s message.
